The Unexpected Edit

Closet cleaning isn’t exactly my strong suit, so I’ll leave it to the various organizational experts out there like Marie Kondo…. for each item in your closet, if you are trying to decide what to donate, pass on, and what to keep …. Ask yourself, “does this item give me joy?” When I think about that question, it sounds like this … “well, it would give me joy if I was 15 pounds thinner” or “it would give me joy wearing that to go glamping in a national park”… I do not think this is what KonMari was intending nor do I think either scenario is likely. What excites me in going through my closet is using my creative skills to reimagine my wardrobe in unexpected ways. I feel that fashion is largely about utilizing your go-to-wardrobe staples or older unique pieces and mixing them differently. One of my favorite ways to do this is taking something “dressy” and mixing it with other pieces that are more casual. Have some fun with it— mix and match pieces you’d never expect… fashion has no rules. In the photos of this blog, I have paired black joggers with a black ribbed tank and sparkly, strappy stilettos. To make a casual outfit special, I like elevating it with one “special piece” like my sequin tank! In my next look, I am wearing a sequin tank with drop-crotch utility pants and sneakers. Inside, with my dogs, I am in a classic white t-shirt and jeans with ruched high-heeled boots. And lastly, I put a beaded hooded duster over distressed jeans, a v- neck tee, and finished with Adidas sneakers. Unless you are dressing for an event (and even then I love the unexpected), your daily outfit or going-out-to-dinner style can include one statement piece with the rest comfortable, simple, and casual. Getting creative with your clothing allows you to look at your existing wardrobe in all new ways. In this unexpected time of COVID-19, rework your clothes and you may find the joy in them all over again!
